Our Guides

Our Guides are exceptional teachers who between them cover every instrument and every musical genre. As musicians they have performed at venues including the Barbican, Buckingham Palace, the Royal Festival Hall, the O2 and the Montreux Jazz Festival; with Florence and The Machine, Paul McCartney, the London Symphony Orchestra and the BBC; and on Hollywood soundtracks and The X Factor. All our teaching is rigorously monitored to maintain the highest standards. All our Guides embrace the MusicMaps philosophy and are subject to robust security and vetting checks.

The Team

Al (Co-founder)

(Aged 10)

I am a guitar teacher, double bass player and Managing Director of MusicMaps alongside Ash. I am a father, husband and sporadic creator of art.

Ash (Co-founder)

(not aged 10)

I set up MusicMaps with Al and now work with our team to get the best teachers to our clients. I'm a pianist, but I do like to dabble in a bit of trumpet and double-bass.

Chara

I work in the MusicMaps Start, People and Explore Team, setting up the lessons for our Travellers. I am a guitarist and a teacher, who loves cooking and swimming.

Our Founders

Ash Charles’ and Al Mobbs’ love of music is only equal to their love of teaching. Ash trained at Westminster Abbey Choir School, Junior Guildhall of Music, Cambridge University, and the Moscow Conservatoire. Today he is the Director of Music at Bute House and works with many schools in the West London area. Al is a prize-winning graduate of the Royal College of Music and has taught at the top UK school, St. Paul’s Girls’ School for the last fourteen years. He has performed with many international artists including Damon Albarn and Gorillaz and arranged and produced for the likes of Sony and Warner. They have run record labels, sat on the boards of the Association of Independent Music and UK Music, have toured the world and even promoted gigs at the Royal Albert Hall and Shepherd’s Bush Empire. They are, of course, MusicMaps’ two founder Mentors.
